Primate Research

I’m unclear about the breadth of research that is being conducted at these research facilities (so I am not necessarily endorsing them by listing these), but they present valuable information on primates in their native habitats:

  • The Primate Research Institute – founded in 1967, Kyoto
  • Institute of Primate Research – supported by the National Museums of Kenya and states links to Louis Leakey
  • German Primate Centre – conducts field research in three continents, studying tamarins, baboons and lemurs, and in collaboration with Durham University studying the impact of human disturbance and wildlife ecotourism on the stress physiology and health status of critically endangered lowland gorillas (but the centre also seems to carry out laboratory research using primates)
