Florida’s primate sanctuaries brace for Hurricane Irma …

I spent part of my childhood and adulthood in Florida and my immediate family still lives there, so I’ve been closely following reports on Hurricane Irma from the safety of Scotland, my home since 2003.  Two primate sanctuaries in the state, Jungle Friends and the Center for Great Apes, have posted regular updates as they make preparations to ensure all primates are as safe as possible before the storm hits. Please do think about donating to these sanctuaries, and others in the state, as the hurricane will no doubt cause damage and require repairs and rebuilding.  I’ll leave you with a video from the Center for Great Apes, which includes an interview with Jane Goodall, mention of damage from previous hurricanes and profiles of some amazing rescued orangutans and chimpanzees:
